Canucks rally past Blues for 3-2 win i OT Canucks score twice in the third to force OT

In St Louis, J.T. Miller scored a shorthanded goal for the visiting Vancouver Canucks to cut a Blues lead to 2-1 on Thursday night.

“We’re willing to play a boring game sometimes and not risk changing our game to get results,” Miller said. “It was easy to do that tonight.

“All these games are important. We’ve got guys fighting for jobs, we’ve got guys trying to prove something to the new coach. There’s a lot to prove for every single guy in here. We got a lot of good play tonight from a lot of players.”

The Canucks tied it, 2-2, with 29 seconds left o the game clock on a marker from Andrei Kuzmenko.

Vancouver completed the comeback when Elias Pettersson scored with less than a minute left in extra time for a 3-2 over the Blues.

“It was nice,” Pettersson said. “I said five minutes earlier, I had 10 shots today I think, and never had that before. Felt good, but the puck wouldn’t find the way in until the last shot I guess, so I’m happy with that.”

Arturs Silovs, who was  pulled for an extra skater, made 20 saves in the Canucks win.

Vancouver improved to 23-30-5.

“I think we deserved the outcome, yes I do,” Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said. “We did a nice job in a lot of areas. It feels nice to let only two goals in. To win hockey games, you’ve got to defend well, and we did that.”

St Louis took a 1-0 lead at 15:29 of the opening stanza on a shorthanded goal from Alexey Toropchenko.

St Louis dropped to 26-28-4.

“A lot of our best players not doing the job,” Blues coach Craig Berube said. “Our best players don’t play with any passion, no emotion and no inspiration at all. They don’t play inspired hockey. You cannot play in this league without emotion, grit and being inspired. They’re getting paid lots of money and they’re not doing the job. End of story. That’s it. That’s what it boils down to.”

Tyler Tucker scored at 6:45 of the middle frame to extend the Blues advantage to 2-0, it was his first career NHL goal.

“Obviously, it’s nice to be rewarded,” said Tucker, who was playing his 18th NHL game. “Two points would’ve been better.”

The Blues have lost four matches since trading away Ryan O’Reilly to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Jordan Binnington made 38 saves in the Blues loss.
