Canucks rally for OT win over Toronto

In Vancouver, Bo Horvat‘s second goal of the game came at 1:19 of extra time to send the Canucks to a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday.

“This isn’t just your regular win during the regular season. It’s a special win,” Canucks head coach Travis Green said. “We’ve gone through a lot here with our group over the last few weeks. I’m proud of our group and how we stuck with it and won.”

The game was the first for the Canucks since being paused on COVID-19 protocol.

“I couldn’t prouder of our guys in that room,” Horvat, said. “The way they manned up tonight and stuck with the process and willed their way to that win.”

Braden Holtby made 37 saves to get the victory.

“Just a gutsy effort,” Holby said. “You give it absolutely all you have, stick together, and we believed we were going to have a chance to win.”

William Nylander and Auston Matthews scored for the Maple Leafs to give them a 2-0 lead.

Nylander opened the scoring in the first period.

“I think I had a little stretch before I went into quarantine where I could have scored that 100th goal, so it’s nice to get that one early,” Nylander said.

After Matthews scored his 33rd of the season  in the middle frame, Horvat made it 2-1.

“We had plenty of chances, enough to obviously win the game and add to our lead, but you’ve got to tip your hat to the goalie,” Matthews said. “Holtby played unreal tonight. He made some unbelievable saves.”

Nils Hoglander forced the extra session he tied the game, 2-2, just past the midway point of the third period.

Jack Campbell made 21 saves in the loss.
