Canucks make it four in a row

In Vancouver, the Canucks have now won four straight games, this time 2-1 over the Carolina Hurricanes, on Sunday night.

New Head coach Bruce Boudreau is 4-0-0 as the new Vancouver bench boss.

“Let’s go for five,” Boudreau  said. “We’re behind the eight ball. We’ve got to keep going after it.”

Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson were the Canucks strikers in the win.

“A fresh start. It’s a little different, the way we’re playing,” Boeser said. “We’re trying to push forward, and you can see how much the D are pinching and getting up the ice quick and supporting each other. It’s working well so far, and we’ve got to keep building, getting better at our systems and keep getting wins.”

Thatcher Demko made 28 saves in the Vancouver win.

The Canucks improved to 12-15-2.

“To be able to score and get a huge win, it means a lot and builds on the confidence,” Boeser said. “You can feel the confidence building and it’s a lot better when you’re winning hockey games in the locker room and everyone’s excited to come to the rink.”

The Canucks held a 2-0 lead heading into the third period; Martin Necas scored for the Canes to make the final minutes a bit more tense.

“The effort is always there with this group, that’s never the issue,” Carolina head coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “We made it a little harder on ourselves than we needed to, kind of some weird plays we don’t normally make that led to a couple of their goals. We just kind of gave them a couple of freebies and it’s tough to come back when you’re chasing the game. We worked hard, just didn’t execute well.”

Carolina dropped to 19-7-1.

Antti Raanta made 24 saves in the Canes loss.
