In Vancouver, the Edmonton Oilers scored twice in the third period on Tuesday to tie the Canucks, 2-, and force extra time.
Connor McDavid scored in the extra session to give Edmonton a 3-2 win.
“I’ve been a bit snake bit,” said McDavid, who also had an assist and is fourth in the NHL with 57 points (20 goals, 37 assists) in 37 games. “I feel like I’m getting my chances but I haven’t been able to put one away, so it was nice to be able to contribute.”
It was Edmonton’s second straight win.
“Not ideal, but it’s nice we find ways to come back,” Oilers head coach Dave Tippett said. “That shows a lot of will on our team.”
Mikko Koskinen made 25 saves in the Oilers win.
Elias Pettersson and Tyler Motte scored in the middle frame to give the Canucks a 2-0 lead.
“It hurts,” Motte said. “It’s one you’ve got to finish off. We know we’ve dug ourselves a hole, we’ve got to get points and that’s a great example of a time we’ve got to finish the job.”
Vancouver improved to 18-19-5.
Ryan McLeod and Leon Draisaitl tied the game with their third period strikes.
The Oilers moved to 26-11-5.
Spencer Martin made 27 saves in the Canucks loss.
