Canucks get front end of home and home over Oilers

In Edmonton, Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves  as the visiting Vancouver Canucks upended the Oilers, 5-2, on Saturday night.

Tanner Pearson collected two goals and had four points in the win.

“It was a real team effort and we played a [heck] of a game,” Canucks coach Travis Green said. “Obviously, with [Edler] leaving the game, our D stepped up, and I thought all four lines played well.”

Connor McDavid scored for the Oilers.

“It was just not good enough all over, special teams, it was just not good enough,” McDavid said. “I thought we did a good job of battling back and we even had a push there in the second where we could have made it 3-2, and just one little mistake and it’s in the back of our net and they’re up 3-2. And they’re a team you can’t play against from behind. You have to try and get the lead on these guys because they’re pretty good at shutting it down.”

Zack Kassian scored for the Oilers in the second period to tie the game at 2-2.

“It’s tough when you fall behind in the game,” the Oilers’ Ethan Bear said. “I thought Vancouver played a solid game and really didn’t give us too many good looks. Credit to them. I think we can attack more and just support each other a little better in the D zone.”

Tyler Graovac, Josh Leivo and Loui Eriksson  also scored for the Canucks.

“It’s a big win for us, especially to get that win against a good team in their own building is big for us,” Bo Horvat said. “Now we have to carry that momentum into tomorrow night. It was a great start and that helped set up the rest of the game, and [Markstrom] made unbelievable saves and kept us in it.”
