In Vancouver, Alex Chiasson scored early in the third period to give the Canucks a 3-2 lead over the San Jose Sharks.
Luke Schenn added a shorthanded goal with one second left in the game, into an empty net, for a 4-2 for Vancouver.
“It feels good at this time of the year to feel good about your game,” Chiasson said. “It’s a nice opportunity for myself to showcase what I can do.”
The Canucks are now just four points back of the Dallas Stars and the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.
“Feels good to contribute to the success of the team, and we obviously know how important all these games are,” Chiasson said. “Just a gutsy effort, I thought.”
Thatcher Demko made 35 saves in the Canucks win.
Tomas Hertl and Nick Bonino scored for the Sharks.
“Guys are obviously a little bit down,” coach Bob Boughner said. “No one likes losing and it’s right there every night. It’s tough to find your way over that hump.”
The Canucks have won three straight to improve to 35-28-10.
“It wasn’t a Picasso,” Boudreau said. “We didn’t play our best game, but we sort of grinded it out. Found a way and got great goaltending.”
Jason Dickinson put the Canucks up, 1-0, with a goal at 2:03 of the first period..
“For a guy that hasn’t played a lot lately it was really good to see,” coach Bruce Boudreau said.
Connor Garland put the Canucks up, 2-1, in the middle frame.
“Anytime you can get balanced scoring or scoring from other ways — because our power play wasn’t very good tonight (0-for-7) — those are things that you find a way, that you haven’t done in a while,” Boudreau said. “It was good to see.”
Bonino tied for San Jose at 2-2.
“[Frustration] is high,” San Jose’s Logan Couture said. “It’s not fun. We’ve got to find a way out of it. We can’t just be okay with being in games. We got to find a way to win some hockey games. You’ve got to learn to win in this league.”
Kaapo Kahkonen made 35 saves in the Sharks loss.
