Canucks edge Panthers, 2-1 Henrik Sedin nets 1000th point

In Vancouver Friday night, the Canucks got a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers but the story of the night was Henrik Sedin who scored his 1000th NHL point.

He tied the game 1-1 wit a goal in the middle frame.

“I don’t know if you can really envision it,” Henrik said. “Everything was good about it. We got a big win. It was nice [Alexander Edler] and Danny had the helpers. They’ve played for a long time and are two good friends. That was special. I think the best part by far was my teammates coming out on the ice and celebrating with me. That’s something I will remember forever.”

Fittingly, Daniel Sedin set his brother up on a 2-on-1 break for the goal.

Former teammate and Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo was the victim of the goal.

“I didn’t know how to feel,” said Luongo, who stopped Henrik as he skated to the bench. “I was happy for Hank but not too happy for myself that I let that in. Well-deserved on his part.”

Luca Sbisa scored the game-winning goal in the second period.

“It’s disappointing to come out of here empty-handed,” Luongo said. “It was a pretty hard-fought battle on both sides, and they got a break early in the third and we weren’t able to tie it up the rest of the way. It’s just the way it’s been going right now.”

Ryan Miller made 34 saves for the win and allowed only a goal to Jaromir Jagr.

“It was pretty evident we needed to execute better after the second period. Taking penalties didn’t help, but certainly they were controlling the play a little bit. We looked a lot better [in the third] and then the last five minutes our neutral zone was the best I’ve seen it all year,” Miller said.
