Canucks edge Oilers, 2-1

In Vancouver, Thatcher Demko made 34 saves  and the Canucks defeated the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night, 2-1.

Tyler Myers potted the game-winner in the third period after the two teams skated to a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes.

“I just tried to shoot it as hard as I could,” Myers said. “It was great to put the team ahead for one, and for the guys to battle it out at the end and get the win, it’s a little cherry on top.”

Vancouver improved to 13-16-2.

“I think it speaks volumes about the growth of our group,” Demko said. “I think everyone in the room knew that we weren’t very good last game and in this league we play so quickly, so frequently and being able to get right back at it, [we] had a good practice yesterday and I think guys were re-invigorated and they really wanted to get back out and get back in the ‘W’ column.”

Leon Draisaitl had the Oilers’ lone goal in the loss.

“Definitely had enough chances to win the game,” Draisaitl said. “Their goalie was good.”

Bo Horvat scored to give the Canucks a 1-0 lead.

“We did some things alright, we had some chances, but we didn’t win, Edmonton head coach Dave Tippett said. “We’ve got to come here with the mindset [that] we’ve got to do whatever it takes to win, and we didn’t do it tonight.”

Mikko Koskinen made 26 saves in the loss.

“We played really well for the most part,” Draisaitl said. “We dipped a little bit in the third for a couple of minutes, but other than that I thought we were the better team. Sometimes that’s just the way it goes. We had games this year we weren’t the better team and we won.”
