Canucks edge Ducks, 2-1 Ducks eliminated frm playoff race

In Anaheim, the visiting Vancouver Canucks scored a 2-1 win over the Ducks on Sunday.Collin Delia made 17 saves in the win.

“We were pretty relentless from the get-go,” Delia said.

The Canucks improved to 31-33-5 on their seventh win in eight games.

“When you have a dud or don’t play well, you always look for players to have responses, and I saw some good responses from players who weren’t engaged [Saturday] night,” Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet said. “That’s what the game is all about, being able to respond if things don’t go your way.”

J.T. Miller scored in the fist period to give the Canucks a 1-0 lead.

Elias Pettersson pushed the lead to 2-0 in the middle frame.

“We had some good looks,” Pettersson said. “We should have scored more than two, but their goalie kept them in the game.”

Ryan Strome scored at 13:10 of the third to trim the Canucks lead to 2-1, but the Ducks were unable to get the equalizer.

“The first two periods we didn’t have quite the emotion we needed,” Strome said. “In the third period, we had some desperation. We put some pucks toward the net, and we forechecked hard and we were competitive. The first two periods we gave them way too much time and space.”

Anaheim dropped to 23-37-10, and were officially eliminated from the playoff race.

“When it gets near the end of the game, you always root for the goalie to get a shutout, so tough luck on that one,” Tocchet said.

John Gibson made 38 saves in the Ducks loss.
