In Vancouver, the visiting Edmonton Oilers’ Mikko Koskinen made 29 saves in a 2-1 win over the Canucks on Saturday night.
“It starts with Mikko,” the Oilers’ Zach Hyman said. “He made some huge saves, so can’t have a game like that without him and it was a good game. We bounced back after a loss, on the road playing a good Vancouver team and get the win. Great team effort.”
Brock Boeser scored the lone Canucks goal with six seconds left on the clock.
“It was a hard-fought hockey game tonight,” Canucks head coach Travis Green said. “I don’t like losing. Our team doesn’t like losing, but I thought we probably took a step in the right direction for some of our guys.”
The Oilers scored power play goals in the first and second periods, both goals coming from Leon Draisaitl and Warren Foegele.
“This power play, every time they’re out there wants to score and thinks that they can score,” Hyman said. “We don’t really think about the numbers or the percentages, it’s just let’s go get a goal.”
Edmonton improved to 6-1-0.
“‘Koskie’ really made some big saves there late, so it’s tough to see him lose a shutout. But that being said, it’s a good two points,” Oilers head coach Dave Tippett said.
Vancouver’s Thatcher Demko made 32 saves in the loss.
