Canucks down Flyers in shootout

In Vancouver, the Canucks defeated the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, after the skills competition.

Elias Pettersson and Tanner Pearson had strikes for the Canucks in the shootout.

Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves to get the win.

“I like that we found a way to win a hockey game,” Vancouver head coach Travis Green said. “The first two periods were a bit of a chess match. Both teams were working hard and fighting for space.”

Oskar Lindblom and Carsen Twarynski scored for the Flyers.

“It was exciting. Nice to get that first one out of the way, but obviously we came here to win,” Twarynski said. “We got one point but would have loved two.”

Pearson and Brock Boeser had the Canucks’ regulation goals.

“It’s just a result of our line playing well, getting pucks deep, going east-west, getting pucks to the net and driving there,” Boeser said. “We’ve just got to keep doing that.”

Carter Hart made 22 saves in the loss.

“I didn’t have a lot of work for probably the majority of the game,” Hart said. “Most of my work came in overtime, so that’s a kudos to our group for how defensive we played and how many chances we generated on Markstrom. He played really well.”
