In Vancouver, Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson and Alexander Edler scored on the power play for the Canucks in a 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers.
“We talk about how much special teams makes a difference in these games, and it showed tonight,” Boeser said. “We’re feeling pretty confident on the power play so it’s nice to be a difference maker.”
The Canucks now have a 5-0-1 record over their six games after finding it difficult to find a win through a miserable stretch.
“To see a group go through a lot of adversity and then to see them rebound, it means a lot,” coach Travis Green said. “It was as good a game as I have seen out of a lot of guys tonight.”
Jacob Markstrom made 20 saves to get the win.
Alex Chiasson and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored for the Oilers.
“We showed we can out-play them five-on-five, but unfortunately we just took too many penalties and they started to get momentum and we just couldn’t claw our way back,” Nugent-Hopkins said.
Edmonton dropped to 18-13-3 with the loss.
Ken Hitchcock was not pleased with how the Canucks played tight againsty Connor McDavid, accusing the Canucks of holding his star.
“We’re a league that’s supposed to showcase our top players and you don’t want to give him all the freedom,” Hitchcock said. “He’s not allowed to play give and go. It’s give and hold.
“We’re going to have to figure out how to fight through it.”
Bo Horvat scored an empty-net goal late to close out the scoring.

Mikko Koskinen made 26 saves the loss.
“They made it really hard on us to do anything. They covered us over hard. And I thought as time wore on, they kind of wore down some guys,” Hitchcock lamented after the game.
