Can’t keep a good team down

BRA NTFORD—Brantford Blast took the lead early with a pair of goals in the first two minutes, however, it was the Dundas Real McCoys who had the last laugh as they edged the Blast 5-4 last Friday in Allan Cup Hockey action in the Brantford Civic Centre.

Cam Fergus and Igor Gongalsky put Brantford out in front, but the McCoys rallied to take the lead on a goal by Mackenzie Wood early in the second period.  The clubs traded goals in the remainder of the second period as they skated to a 4-4 tie.

It was Wood’s goal at 4:56 of overtime that sealed the deal for Dundas.

The next action for Dundas is Friday, December 6tth against the Hamilton Steelhawks at 7:30 p.m. in Hamilton’s Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.

Mackenzie Wood (8) scores his second goal of the game in overtime last Friday night as the Dundas Real McCoys edged the Brantford Blast 5-4 in overtime.

“It was not the start we were hoping for,” said Dundas coach Ron Bernacci.  “We went down on two quick goals in the first two minutes of play.”

“We were able to settle down, and play very well from the net out for the remainder of the game.  Friday was Anthony Marshall’s first start of the season, and he did a great job for us against a very offensive-minded Brantford Team.”

“As a Team defensively we were able limit opportunities for Brantford after those first two minutes of the game.”

“The line of Phil Brewer, Mark Bennett and Wood had a strong night accounting for eight points collectively including the overtime winner by Wood that was set up by Brewer.”

“Friday was just another step in the right direction for us as a team,” Bernacci added.

Mark Bennett paced the Dundas attack with two goals and an assist.  Wood added two more goals including the game winner in overtime.  Dustin Alcock with a goal rounded out the scoring for the McCoys.  Phil Brewer set up three of the Dundas goals.  In addition to Fergus and Gongalsky, the Blast got single goals from Jason Pitton and Nathan Pageau.
