In Raleigh, Dougie Hamilton scored in extra time on Saturday to help the Hurricanes defeat the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets, 2-1.
Alex Nedeljkovic made 31 saves in the win.
“It can’t get much better than that, aside from scoring yourself,” Nedeljkovic said. “It’s something I enjoy doing, and it makes our defensemen’s lives a lot easier. It was nice to get a chance to get one there in overtime when things are a little bit more open.”
Max Domi scored for Columbus to give them a 1-0 lead in the first period.
“I thought we played really well tonight,” Columbus head coach John Tortorella said. “I thought we played disciplined, we were simple. Playing as groups was really consistent tonight. One of the things we need to improve at is when we do have odd-man rushes, to get more on them. That hurts us a bit.”
Teuvo Teravainen scored for the Canes in regulation to tie the game at 1-1 in the opening frame.
“To have the awareness of what was going on in that play, it’s just heads up play.” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “He (Nedeljkovic) was really one of the best players on the ice tonight.”
The Blue Jackets dropped to 16-25-11.
“It starts with [Robinson] just creating a battle and a turnover. He’s got such a good stick,” Domi said. “Then [Bjorkstrand] got that semi-shot off and the rebound was right there. I just got to sit on the doorstep. You just got to put that one in the empty cage.”
Elvis Merzlikins made 31 saves in the loss.
