In Raleigh on Monday night, the Hurricanes had had enough of losing apparently.
With the Ottawa Senators in town, the Canes opened a new box of offense and handed the Sens their plane tickets out of town with an 8-2 decision.
The win snapped an ugly four-game skid for Carolina.
“It’s nice to see the puck go in,” Carolina head coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “The last couple weeks here, it’s been tough sledding finding the back of the net. Tonight, we were able to capitalize on our chances.”
Sebastian Aho struck for two goals in the win.
Petr Mrazek made 26 saves in the win.
Colin White and Brady Tkachuk scored for the Senators.
“We were skating and the puck found the back of the net, and every mistake we made just kind of compounded, and that happens sometimes,” Ottawa head coach D.J. Smith said. “They’re a real good team at home. We’re just going to move on.”
Multi-point nights were also secured by Joel Edmundson, Ryan Dzingel, Warren Foegele, and Martin Necas; each had a goal and assist except Edmundson who had two assists to go along with an assist.
“That took a while, but I’m happy to help my team out,” Edmundson said. “We came ready to play. We played a full 60 minutes. If we do that, most nights we will get the result we want.”
Haydn Fleury and Dougie Hamilton also scored for the Canes.

Anders Nilsson got the start for the Sens, but was mercifully given the hook in the second period. He had made 15 saves on 19 shots.
“We practice hard, we’ve played hard every day. I’m not going to look too far into this. We’ll get back to work tomorrow and back to work against (the) New Jersey (Devils) on Wednesday,” Smith said.
Craig Anderson fared little better in the carnival shooting booth; he made 20 saves.
“He’s (Nilsson) been outstanding for us; it was nothing to do with him,” Smith said. “It’s just four is enough. It’s a bad break off a stick. It is what it is.
“This is a process here, and that’s a learning experience. That’s a team that we beat the other day and they were upset. They came back hard today.”
