In Raleigh Friday, the Carolina Hurricanes improved to 15-11-7 on the season and 9-0-1 in their last 10 home games as they rallied and beat the Boston Bruins, 3-2 in extra time.
Cam Ward made 31saves for the win.
“[Boston] is a tough team, a team that played real well in the first two periods,” Ward said. “They played with a lot of pace and had us on our heels for much of the game, but it was great to see [Teravainen] cash in on the three-on-three.”
Teuvo Teravainen scored the winner with a tick under two minutes left in the OT.
“I think that’s my first overtime goal ever,” Teravainen said . “I can’t remember [one]. It’s a pretty cool feeling, and to help the team win, it’s always a special moment.”
The Canes trailed 2-0 before Jordan Staal scored a shortie to start the rally.
Justin Faulk tied the game early in the third period.

“We’ve been frustrated for a while. We can’t score more than two goals right now. We know if we give up more than two, it’s tough for us to win. We have to find a way to get that scoring touch, whether it’s confidence or killer instinct, we’ve got to find a way,” Boston’s Torey Krug said.
Ryan Spooner and Brad Marchand had early goals for the Bruins to build the 2-0 lead.
“It’s heartbreaking sometimes, how hard we work and how we’re not capable of extending leads,” Boston head coach Claude Julien said describing the loss. “And with the number of chances we had in those first two periods, and the number of chances that we gave them, I think the only real good chance they had in the second was that breakaway, the shorthanded goal. The rest of the period was basically ours.”
Anton Khudobin took the loss on saves.
“[Ward] did a great job of holding onto it for a while there and letting us get into the game a little bit more, get a little more compete in our game. He’s been unbelievable for a while for us now,” Staal said.
