Canes send Isles to off season with 2-1 win in OT, in Game 6 Stastny scored series winner

In Elmont, the New York Islanders’ season came to a sudden end on Friday night.The Carolina Hurricanes’ Paul Stastny scored with six minutes gone in extra time on a wrist shot from the goal line to the right of the cage.

The puck went in off Ilya Sorokin’s  right skate for the winner.

Frederik Andersen made 33 saves in the Canes win.

Carolina won the series, 4-2.

Andersen was making his first start of the post season in Game 6.

The Islanders took a 1-0 lead just ahead of the midway point of the first period, Cal Clutterbuck  scored from the right circle.

Carolina did not get even until midway through the third period when Sebastian Aho  chipped in the tying goal on a backhand.

Sorokin made 39 saves in the Isles loss.
