Canes edge Blue Jackets in OT

In Columbus, Alex Nedeljkovic made 33 saves  and the Carolina Hurricanes bounced back from a late tying goal by the Blue Jackets to win, 4-3, in overtime.

Sebastian Aho potted the game-winner with 1:26 gone in the extra session.

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored with 16 seconds left in regulation to force the extra session and get the Blue Jackets at least the loser’s point.

“That’s a big point for us,” Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella said. “Four games against one of the top teams in the League. We go 2-1-1 against them. We come back and tie it up late and the two periods we played are probably two of the best we played all year long. I hope it keeps propelling us.”

Nino Niederreiter had given the Canes 3-2 lead earlier in the third period.

“It was a very tough game overall for us,” Niederreiter said. “We didn’t play the way we wanted to play but we found a way to win.”\

Cam Atkinson and Zach Werenski also scored for the Blue Jackets.

“We know that we are on the right track here, we really are,” Columbus’ Nick Foligno said. “It’s a really good team we played four times in a row and got a lot of points off of them.”

Cedric Paquette and Cedric Paquette also scored for the Canes in regulation.

“Our team knows how good he is,” Aho said. “Maybe the media doesn’t know about him but our team for sure does.”

Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves in the loss.

“We find a way to get one,” Werenski said. “There’s no time to sit here and feel sorry for ourselves that we didn’t get a second.

“I thought we played a good hockey game. There’s a lot of things we can take from that game and build on and there’s still some things we have to clean up.”
