In Montreal, the season just goes from bad to worse for the Canadiens.
On Thursday night, the Colorado Avalanche handed the Habs a 4-1 loss,
Montreal as dropped two games since firing general manager Marc Bergevin.
The Canadiens dropped 6-17-2.
The Avs’ Jonas Johansson made 19 saves for the win.
“It feels really good,” Johansson said. “I mean, last night was last night. I don’t think anyone was happy with that game, including me. And so, really nice to come back and get the two points tonight.”
Ben Chiarot was the lone goal scorer for Montreal.
“I thought we had some good O-zone time,” Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme said. “Obviously, we wanted to get more pucks [to the net], but … I thought they were pretty composed on the other side defensively, hard battles down low. Five-on-five it was a pretty tight game.”
Valeri Nichushkin and Cale Makar scored in the middle frame around Chiarot’s goal goal for a 2-1 heading to the third period.
“Obviously, we wanted to focus on a better start, and I think we did that tonight,” Makar said.
Colorado improved to 12-71. They have won eight of their 10 games.
“I was really proud of him (Johansson) ,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said. “He looked square to the shooters all night, he didn’t give up a lot of rebounds.”
Andre Burakovsky scored early in the third period to give the Avs a 3-1 lead.
Gabriel Landeskog hit for an empty-net goal late in the third for the 4-1 final.
Montreal’s Josh Anderson left the match in the middle frame with an apparent upper body injury.
Jake Allen made 30 saves in another loss without support from anyone in front of him.
