In Montreal, Tyler Toffoli scored twice including his ninth goal of the season, to lead the Canadiens to a 5-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks, on Tuesday night.
“It’s just fun out there right now, and we’re just doing so well as a team and all the guys are getting along great,” Toffoli said. “So hopefully we can stick with it and stay together and keep getting better every single day, and that’s what we’re trying to do. I think we’re on the right path right now.”
Toffoli leads the NHL in goals.
“They’ve beaten us four times out of five, so I guess right now they have our number,” Vancouver head coach Travis Green said.
Jake Allen made 36 saves to get the win.
“They had a good push in the third, throwing just a lot of pucks at the net, [but] we found a way to get a win,” Allen said.
Elias Pettersson and Tanner Pearson scored in the third period to get the Canucks within 4-3 of the Canadiens.
“I think we battled hard,” Pettersson said. “We talked about it because we weren’t happy with our game [Monday]. I think we raised our compete level and didn’t go all the way today. It [stinks] to lose, but it was better today than [Monday].”
Antoine Roussel also scored for the Canucks.
Josh Anderson also struck for two goals for the Habs.
“I couldn’t believe it, but he’s (Toffoli ) just been awesome,” Anderson said. “He’s been a very consistent player for us and very dangerous out there, so we’re very lucky to have him.”
Jeff Petry added an empty-net goal late to ice the win.
Thatcher Demko made 28 saves in the loss.
