Canadiens score four in the middle frame, down Isles, 5-3 Anderson scores double in second period outburst

In Montreal, a four-goal middle frame was enough for the Canadiens to defeat the New York Islanders, 5-3, on Saturday night.

Josh Anderson hit for a double  in the second period outburst when the Canadiens took a 4-0 lead into the third period..

Sam Montembeault made 30 saves in the win.

The Habs moved to 13-13-4.

After a scoreless opening stanza, the Canadiens hit for their outburst in the middle frame, starting with Joel Armia scoring at 7:45 for a 1-0 lead.

Anderson scored his fist of the period at 10:35 to extend the lead to 2-0 for Montreal.

Anderson’s double came at 19:06 to push the lead to 3-0.

Montreal’s Cole Caufield ballooned the lead to 4-0 15 seconds later.

The Islanders dropped to 14-8-8.

New York rallied in the third with three goals to close the gap.

Brock Nelson scored a pair of goals for the Isles in the third, his two trimmed the deficit to 4-2.

Nelson’s first was a shorthanded marker at 2:07.

His double came at 3:43 to get the Isles within two at 4-2.

Bo Horvat then hit a marker at 14:06 to trim the deficit to one at 4-3.

The Canadiens finally responded with an empty-net strike by Christian Dvorak at 19:40 for the 5-3 final count.

Semyon Varlamov made 36 saves in the loss.
