In Montreal, the Canadiens’ Joel Armia  scored early in the third period to tie their game with the Winnipeg Jets, on Saturday night, 3-3..
The goal forced extra time which solved nothing.
Montreal took the game on penalties, 4-3.
Jake Allen made 42 saves for the win, including three stops in the skills competition.
The Jets’ Adam Lowry s scored the first of his two on the night at 4:28 for a 1-0 lead to Winnipeg.
“Give their goaltender credit, he made some big stops for them,” Winnipeg associate coach Scott Arniel said. “We could have blown that out, maybe made it three, 4-0 there. They hung in there until the end of it and he gave them a chance, but all in all I was happy with how we played. We put a lot of pressure on them for most of that game.”
Less than a minute later Justin Barron scored to tie the game, 1-1, in the first period.
“I thought even after the tough start in the second period we just kept coming back and coming back and generating chances,” Barron said. “The last two games we’ve had great third periods in come-from-behind wins (4-3 overtime win against Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday), so I think it just kind of shows the character we have in this room.”
Lowry scored his double with 15 seconds gone in the middle frame for a 2-1 lead to the Jets.
“If we put up 45 shots, most nights, and kind of limit the chances we give up, we feel like we’ll give ourselves a great chance to win every night,” Lowry said.
Just 18 seconds later, Nino Niederreiter pushed the lead to 3-1 for the Jets, on a backhand shot.
“We had more than enough chances to bury and get that fourth one,” Jets defenseman Brenden Dillon said. “We had the power play at the start of the third, too. You know it’s just something where we’re doing a lot of good things, I think the team as a whole is feeling good about our game and where it’s at right now. We found a way to get a point tonight, but it’s frustrating that we didn’t get two.”
Sean Monahan trimmed the deficit to one at 3-2 off the power play at 8:23 of the second period.
“That was a great play by ‘Suzi’ to find me there, I was kind of all alone,” Monahan said. “Special teams are huge. In a game like that, where we weren’t going great in the first or second, to get the power-play goal and get us some momentum was huge.”
The Habs finished the rally in the third to tie it, 3-3.
“Obviously, a really bad start for us in the second period, but I like how we responded,” Montreal’s Nick Suzuki said. “We didn’t quit and we’re a team that likes to keep pushing when we’re down, and I think we showed a lot of character in the game coming back to win.”
Laurent Brossoit made 26 saves in the loss.
