Canadiens no match for the Penguins in shutout loss

In Montreal, the Canadiens were powerless to stop the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.

Sidney Crosby scored in the first period to stake the Pens to a 1-0 lead.  That was more than enough.

“I thought we did a good job of moving our feet, putting pressure on them and getting some early goals to get the lead,” Crosby said.

Tristan Jarry made 24 saves for the Penguins in a 6-0 rout of the Habs.

“We have a lot of games and a lot of road to go,” the Canadiens’ Ben Chiarot said. “We have a game a day from now, so park this one and get ready for the next one.”

Teddy Blueger hit for a pair of goals for Pittsburgh, and added an assist.

Danton Heinen  and Jake Guentzel also scored for Pittsburgh.

Brock McGinn added a single maker for the Pens in the middle frame.

Cayden Primeau made 26 saves and surrendered five goals through 40 minutes.  He was given the hook in the second intermission.

Sam Montembeault made 11 saves in the third period.
