Canadiens end Canucks win streak

Well, so much for a four-game win streak.

The Vancouver Canucks headed to Montreal on the strength of four wins and rejuvenation of their playing.

The along came the Canadiens like a horde out of the North Country and handed the Canucks a 6-2 loss.

Carey Price made 27 saves to get the win.

“We’re a good skating team,” Montreal head coach Claude Julien said. “We feel that playing a pressure game is what serves us best. So we’ve done that. And pressure is not just on the forecheck, it’s also in the (defensive) zone. We like to kill plays quickly there so that’s also the kind of things we’ve been talking about, we’ve been working on since the start of training camp.”

Adam Gaudette and Jay Beagle were the Canucks strikers.

“Turn over the puck against this team, you’re going to lose,” Vancouver head coach Travis Green said. “You’re soft in puck battles, you’re going to lose. They’re a quick team. They work hard, they’re structured, they’re deep. We’d already played them three times. And it’s pretty simple tonight what happened.”

The Habs improved to 6-1-1.

Corey Perry, Nick Suzuki and Artturi Lehkonen had multi-point nights including a goal each.

“I don’t think there’s any way that we can’t play,” Petry, said. “We can play a fast game, we can play a physical game, depending on what the other team throws at us. But there’s one thing that we always rely on is our speed and I think it’s hard for teams to come out and set the pace early. I think it’s hard for teams to keep up with us for the full 60 minutes.”

Jeff Petry scored twice for Montreal.

Tyler Toffoli scored off the power play for Montreal

Braden Holtby made 34 saves in the loss.

“We have guys that can work, guys that can play within a system, and if we have some guys not doing it and some guys doing it, it’s not going to work very well,” Holtby said. “And we’ve seen that in passing, that goes for any team. Against a team that wants to go and wants to pressure, the simpler the better. And we know that. Now we’ve just got to go execute it.”
