Canada defeated Germany 5–1 in their quarterfinal matchup at the Olympic Winter Games Mliano Cortina 2026 on Saturday. The Canadian power play remained potent, converting twice with a German player in the penalty box. New York Sirens forward Sarah Fillier notched one on the player advantage with a sharp-angle finish, one of her two points on the day.
Canada’s top line of Fillier, Toronto Sceptres forward Daryl Watts, and captain and Montréal Victoire forward Marie-Philip Poulin was effective offensively as they combined for five points on the night. Poulin, returning from a lower-body injury that forced her to miss the previous two games, made an immediate impact. Her third-period goal tied Canadian legend Hayley Wickenheiser for the most goals in Olympic Winter Games history.
Germany’s lone goal came shorthanded and marked the first they have ever scored against Canada in international competition. Their tournament comes to an end in the quarterfinals. Boston Fleet forward Laura Kluge finished as Germany’s leading scorer, recording three goals and seven points in five games.
Canada advances to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of Switzerland and Finland later today. The semifinals begin Monday.
