Caines wins comeback game for Storm in OT

Manchester Storm came from three down to beat Dundee Stars in overtime! Based on recent results, few would have predicted Dundee leading by two after the opening period – but that’s exactly what happened at the Storm Shelter.

Twelve minutes had been played when Bradley Schoonbaert poked home a loose puck on the powerplay to open the scoring. Just over five minutes later, Craig Moore one-timed Schoonbaert’s pass past Evan Weninger to double the Stars’ lead.

Two ahead after 20 minutes, Dundee extended their advantage 4:58 into period two as Matt Berry poked home another loose puck. Gary Haden pulled one back for Manchester at exactly the 30-minute mark, while Weninger produced an incredible double save to deny Otto Nieminen – a sequence certain to feature in this week’s saves of the week.

Joseph Nardi brought Storm back to within one with just 52 seconds remaining in the middle frame.

Seventy seconds into period three, Brandon Cutler one-timed a puck that rolled into the slot, beating Jarrett Fiske to tie the game 3-3.

In truth, both sides deserved a point from an evenly contested game. Storm missed a penalty shot in overtime but ultimately claimed the win when the puck broke kindly to Harrison Caines in the slot, who fired home at 61:59 to seal a 4-3 victory.
