READING, PA – Kyle Schmidt’s goal 3:22 into overtime propelled the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs to a 3-2 win over the Michigan Wolverines to propel them to their first ever national title in 67 years. It was the 15th time UMD played into overtime this season. Michigan held a 1-0 lead heading into the second period thanks to Ben Winnett, but UMD took control of the second period scoring twice for a 2-1. Jeff Rohrkemper’s backhand goal tied the game at two with only 2:14 left in regulation sending the game into overtime. The led to Schmidt’s heroics when Brady Lamb went behind the Wolverine net and backhanded a pass to Schmidt who cut in front of the Michigan net and quickly put the puck past Wolverine goaltender Shawn Hunwick for the win and the national title.
