Buffalo hit for three in third, down Flyers, 5-2 Biro scores double for Sabres - Update to follow

PHILADELPHIA After skating to a 2-2 tie into the third period, the Flyers surrendered three unanswered goals to th4e Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday in a 5-2.

The Sabres’ Owen Power scored with 3:03 gone in the third for the eventual game-winner, and a 3-2 lead.

“They don’t ask how, they ask how many,” Power said. “It’s obviously not our best win, but you take them when you can in this league, so [I] can’t complain about it.”

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 38 saves in the win.

Buffalo improved to 5-5-0.

Both teams scored twice in the first period with the Flyers grabbing a 1-0 lead on a strike by Joel Farabee  with 455 seconds gone in the game.

“It’s frustrating that the puck isn’t going in,” Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim said. “We’re still generating those chances so we just have to stay with it, stay positive as best we can and hope that things are going to turn here and those bounces are going to start going in. You put 40 shots up in a game, you’re going to score more than two goals most nights.”

The Sabres replied with a pair of goals including from Casey Mittelstadt to tie the game, 1-1, at 3:38.

Brandon Biro scored the first of his double on the night midway through the frame for a 2-1 lead to the sabres.

“Obviously it’s been a long road to get here,” Biro said. “To finally get one after a long time … I haven’t played [an NHL] game in almost two years. It’s definitely been a grind to get here and just a weight off the shoulders.”

Philadelphia knotted the game at 2-2 on  a marker from Cam Atkinson  at 16:17 of the first.

After a scoreless middle frame, the Sabres clamped down on the Flyers’ offense, and took advantage of sloppy defense to hit for two goals and a 4-2 lead.

The Flyers dropped to 4-5-1.

Tage Thompson scored at 13:28 for a 4-2 advantage to Buffalo.

Biro hit an empty net with 3:08 left om the game clock for the 5-2 final.

Carter Hart got the start for the Flyers, but left the crease with 10 minutes gone in the game with an apparent injury.

Hart made three saves, yielding both Sabres strikes in the first period.

Samuel Ersson made seven in relief of Hart.
