Budaj, Kings blank Flames, 5-0

In Los Angeles Saturday, the Kings got a 24-save effort from Peter Budaj  in a 5-0 shelling of the Calgary Flames.

Devin Setoguchi  scored twice.  LA Kings 3rd

“It’s been a long time. I can’t even remember the last time I scored,” Setoguchi said. “It was a good feeling tonight. I feel like I was trending in the right direction after the last game. I’ve got to consistently work at it and keep getting to the net and getting shots.”

The Flames were pushed around the ice in the first period and looked out of step for the entire match.

“I thought L.A. came out with a good start, and they put us on our heels a little bit,” Flames coach Glen Gulutzan said. “If we could have came out of the first period with the score being 0-0 — gotten out of that last minute — that would have put us in a position to regroup in the second and come out better. They came real hungry and ready and we didn’t.”

Jeff Carter, Kyle Clifford and Trevor Lewis also scored for the Kings.

Brian Elliott made 34 saves in the loss and is being hung out to dry by a defense that is not supporting him.

“We just got beat. We got our game handed to us a little bit, so we have to take that away. It’s a big boy’s game, and the last minute of a period, you can’t give up a couple of goals. That’s what hurt us, and it just went on from there,” Elliott said.
