Buckeyes tie UCONN, 3-3

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14-ranked Ohio State men’s hockey team is now 6-1-4 after skating to a 3-3 overtime tie with UConn in Value City Arena Saturday. The Buckeyes, who outshot UConn 49-17, scored three goals in a row to overcome a two-goal deficit and take the lead, but a UConn goal midway through the third tied the score and neither team was able to break the deadlock.PHN_BSOG-200x133

Ohio State 3, UConn 3 OT
The Buckeyes trailed 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the game on two UConn power play goals. Mason Jobst cut the lead in half at 12:11 of the first for a 2-1 lead for the Huskies at intermission. In the middle period, the Buckeyes outshot UConn, 25-2, but could get just one shot by the Huskies’ goalie for a 2-2 game after 40 minutes. Just 1:11 into the third David Gust put the Buckeyes ahead with a power play goal, but UConn tied the game at 10:20. Neither team was able to score the rest of the way. Ohio State outshot UConn 14-6 in the third and 2-1 in overtime. For the game, Ohio State put 49 shots on net, while UConn had 17. The Buckeyes blocked 25 UConn shot attempts, with the Huskies blocking 17. Each team had four power plays, with UConn scoring twice and the Buckeyes converting once.

The nonconference game is officially recorded as a tie. A shootout was held for exhibition purposes after the teams ended overtime tied at three. UConn won the shootout, 2-1, in five rounds.
