Bruins thump Bears, 6-2, n feisty match

Hershey, PA – The Providence Bruins defeated the Hershey Bears Saturday night 6-2, scoring the most goals in game that they have all season. The P-Bruins got goals from Kenny Agostino, Austin Czarnik, Jordan Szwarz, Adam Payerl, Tommy Cross and Zach Senyshyn while Jordan Binnington made his ninth start of the season in net.

The Agostino-Czarnik-Szwarz line put on a clinic in the first 20 minutes of play. At 6:17, a spinning backhand feed from Agostino found Czarnik skating towards the net. He sent it right back to the reigning AHL MVP, who scored his seventh goal of the season to give the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead. With four minutes left, the entire line got in on the fun to make it a 2-0 lead. Agostino created a turnover behind the net and got the puck out to Szwarz. He passed the puck across the crease to Czarnik who finished with his eighth goal of the season.

They weren’t done in the opening period, as beautiful passing led to a pretty goal. Cross sent a slap-pass to Czarnik at the right doorstep, who fed Szwarz with a perfect touch pass. Szwarz blasted a one-timer by Pheonix Copley for his tenth goal of the season as Providence entered the locker room with a 3-0 lead after one.

The second period somehow had even more fireworks than the first one, as the excitement went beyond just the scoring. Payerl put home a rebound off a Chris Breen slapper for his first goal as a P-Bruin to make things 4-0 Providence 3:57 into the period.

Tempers boiled over after that as the goaltenders met at center ice after a scrum and dropped the gloves. Binnington and Copley, former teammates, were each ejected after the fight which meant Zane McIntyre and Vitek Vanecek had to enter between the pipes. The fight sparked the Bears offense, as a shorthanded goal from Liam O’Brien at 6:23 and a power play goal from Riley Barber at 9:33 made things 4-2 Providence after 40 minutes.
