Bruins throttle Flyers, 6-2 Pastrnak hits for double for Bruins

PHILADELPHIA – The visiting Boston Bruins scored four times in the opening stanza en route to a 6-2 win over the Flyers on Saturday afternoon.

The matinee loss was the fifth straight for the Flyers.

Linus Ullmark made 35 saves in the win.

Boston improved to 31-9-9.

“That’s what you want in that last game [before the NHL All-Star break],” Boston’s Charlie Coyle said. “You know what’s right around the corner, but you make sure we focus, do all the right things, create our good habits still. You feel much better going into a break when you have a solid game. You win like that, you get to enjoy your break a little more.”

David Pastrnak had t hit for a double and three points in the win.

The opening stanza was all Boston.

Pastrnak hit for his first of the period at 14:09 for a 1-0 lead to the Bruins.

“I was looking to give and go with ‘Pav’ (Pavel Zacha), but then I recognized I have a little bit more time,” Pastrnak said. “I saw my [defenseman] and tried to go through his legs and definitely use the [defenseman] that was on me as a screen.”

Charlie McAvoy  pushed the advantage to 2-0 at 15:46.

“I actually thought the Flyers were significantly better than us the first 10 minutes of the game, and our big-time players made some big-time plays, including our goaltender, who was spectacular,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said.

Danton Heinen  ballooned the lead to 3-0 at 16:47.

Pastrnak collected his double at at 18:23 for a 4-0 lead headed to the middle frame.

“He’s a game-breaker, right?” Montgomery said of Pastrnak. “And he gives us an advantage that, in close games, we can win them.”

The four goals were scored in a span of 4:14.

Philadelphia dropped to 25-19-6 off their fifth straight loss.

“We’ve lost ourselves a little bit here,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “I think we’ve lost confidence offensively, although I thought we generated some offense today. That’s how the League works sometimes, you have some good weeks and you have some struggles. We’re having some struggles now. We’ve just got to try to put our head down and see if we can solve some problems and get better.”

James van Riemsdyk expanded the lead to 5-0 with 75 seconds gone in the middle frame.

Tyson Foerster was the lone striker for the Flyers, he hit for a double in the loss.

Foerster potted his first at 15:23 of the second to cut the deficit to 5-1.

“It obviously feels good to score, but I’d give away those goals for a win any time,” Foerster said.

His double came at at 11:24 of the third period to make it 5-2 in favor of the Bruins.

Coyle added a marker at 14:45 for the 6-2 final count on the scoreboard.Samuel Ersson gt the start and surrendered all four first period goals to the Bruins, he made 10 saves before getting the hook in the intermission.

Cal Petersen iced for the Flyers in net after the first intermission, he made 12 saves, yielding two goals.
