Bruins take Game 6, 5-2 Series tied, 3-3

In Boston, the Bruins faced elimination on in Game 6, Thursday night

The Carolina Hurricanes held a 3-2 series lead, and headed home with the teams tied, 3-3.

Boston hung a 5-2 loss on the Canes.

“We’ve got to win now one road game,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. “That’s what’s in front of us. We knew that when we started this series. … This is what you play for. Guys should be excited. … But we’d play ’em on Mars if we had to. We just want to get after it. That’s what it’s all about. I’m sure they’d say the same thing.”

Game 7 is set for Saturday in Raleigh.

After a scoreless first period, Brad Marchand and Charlie Coyle got the Bruins offense rolling in the middle frame for a 2-0 lead.

Coyle scored off the power play.

“You always want to help out and produce, but you just want to play the right way,” Coyle said. “That’s all it is, no matter who you’re playing with. I think having the lineup that we’ve had, we’re more familiar with one another. You can tell. We got a lot of contributions from different guys tonight. … We’re just glad we got the job done.”

Jeremy Swayman made 23 saves for the Bruins win.

Andrei Svechnikov scored a double for the Hurricanes.

“Every mistake we made, it felt like they capitalized,” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “We got down, and instead of just sticking with it, we tried to do too much. Playing a team like that, they’re going to make you pay when you make those kinds of mistakes.”

Svechnikov scored early in the third period to cut the Bruins lead in half.

Erik Haula scored for Boston to get the Bruins lead back to two goals.

Derek Forbort scored midway through the third period to get Boston a 4-1 advantage.

Curtis Lazar added an empty net goal at 15:43 for a 5-1 lead.

Boston’s Hampus Lindholm  returned to the lineup after missing three games with an injury.

“It was great to be out there,” Lindholm said. “Like I said this morning, watching hockey is not something I’ve ever been good at. So, super happy to be out there with the boys. It’s going to be fun for us to go [to Carolina] as an underdog. … Looking forward to it.”

Svechnikov scored a late so what goal for the 5-2 final.

“I thought we should’ve done a better job sticking with our game and just being confident in what we do, even 5-on-5, and we didn’t do that,” the Hurricanes’ Jordan Staal said. “It was kind of a tailspin, especially going into the third period where we had it right there. … Give them credit, they capitalized on their chances, and made it harder for us to get some shots and create some havoc. We’ll have to find a way to get it done at home.”

Antti Raanta made 29 saves in the Carolina loss.
