In the third, James van Riemsdyk pushed the lead to 5-1 off a power play marker at 5:39.
Johnathan Kovacevic scored for the Canadiens at 15:29 to make the score a bit more respectable at 5-2.
Jake Allen made 39 saves in the Habs loss.
