BOSTON, Ma – The Boston Bruins made it back to the NHL Playoffs despite having to change Head Coaches during the course of the season. From 2008-2014 the Bruins have been one of the league’s most consistent teams. Despite losing in the first round
to the Ottawa Senators, things are looking up for one of the NHL’s original six teams.
The upcoming NHL Entry Draft will once again provide an opportunity to provide the Bruins with another piece of the puzzle that will hopefully bring Beantown another Stanley Cup. Boston has had five first round picks the past two season, including three alone in 2015. Of the five picks, three have been defensemen. The Bruins have also had four second round picks, three of them also came in 2015. To say that Boston is building another cup run through the draft is a bit of an understatement.
The bulk of the teams goal scoring has come from its center position. Despite Brad Marchand’s 39 goals, the Bruins have gotten little else from the left wing position. They could use some more help on right wing as well. Prospect Zach Senyshyn could prove some help on right wing in the near future.
Defense looks like it will see a bright future with so many blue chip prospects lined up. Boston could use some of their depth to trade for help along the wings and to find and eventual replacement or compliment to the aging Zdeno Chara.
In PHN’s mock draft, we don’t predict trades but you can expect Boston will once again be active come draft day. Forwards will be the main course and you can bet that the Bruins will once again look at the draft board as their own personal playground. The draft will be filled with some quality forwards by the time they pick at #18 overall. PHN expects the Bruins to go hunting overseas for one of them.
With that said we expect Boston to make the following announcement in Chicago.
“With the 18th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, the Boston Bruins select, from Smogen, Sweden, Lias Andersson.”
