PHILADELPHIA – After a scoreless 40 minutes of play, James van Riemsdyk gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead over the Boston Bruins in the early seconds of the third period.

celebrate a goal in the third period
“They’re a good team,” van Riemsdyk said. “They just keep playing, and we’ve just got to do a better job of closing games out. Having a lead in the third, we’ve got to try to find a way to make those a little more automatic.”
Philadelphia was unable to hold the lead as the Boston Bruins rallied from the deficit for a 2-1 win regulation.
“It’s not easy to do and it’s not something we want to live by … you can’t trail every game and expect to come back,” Boston head coach Bruce Cassidy said. “But it’s how you end up trailing, I think, that’s important. Tonight, we didn’t have our best, but we hung around, found a way to stay in the game.”
Tuukka Rask made 23 saves for the win.
Boston improved to 8-1-2.
Brad Marchand and Sean Kuraly scored 27 seconds, just to keep the theme going, to push aside the one-goal deficit.
“I’d be lying if I said that came off my stick and I thought I was going to score,” Kuraly said. “We think offense, just simplify and start with getting the puck on the net. Who knows if that goes in or doesn’t, sits in front of the net, rebound. No one knows where it’s going off the goalie, and for our line, we think that’s a good way to start to play offense. … I just told myself get the puck to the net and wasn’t sure that one was going to go in, but when it does, I’ll put my hands up and [celebrate].”
The Flyers’ Joel Farabee missed on a penalty shot in the middle frame.
“I liked the way we played, I like the way we competed,” Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault said. “I don’t like the final result, but for the most part I liked our 5-on-5 game tonight.”
Brian Elliott made 21 saves in the loss.
“Personally, you go from pitching a perfect one to losing it in like a span of a minute,” Elliott said. “It’s frustrating. It’s on me, and that’s one we should have come up with there.”
