The Chicago Blackhawks were oh so close to .500 hockey Tuesday night.
AN eighth straight win would have put the club at 24-24-9.
Instead, the host Boston Bruins withstood a brief rally from the Hawks en route to a 6-3 win, thus ending the Chicago win streak at seven games.
Brad Marchand kicked in a goal and four points in the win.
“Yeah, we’re going to need contributions from everybody with [Pastrnak] going down there for a bit,” Marchand said. “[Heinen] was unreal tonight, made a lot of big plays. [DeBrusk] was very clutch tonight as well. So great games by them. It’s fun to see them play like that, adds so much depth to our group … we need that to continue.”
David Krejci had two strikes in the win and Danton Heinen and Jake DeBrusk added single markers to spread the scoring around the bench.
Tuukka Rask made 23 saves to get the win.
“I think our team has played great,” Rask said. “I think I haven’t like stole games. It’s (not) like I’ve been unbelievable, it’s just I’ve felt good, try to be there when the team needs me, but I haven’t felt anything different during these games. I think we’ve played great hockey as a team.”
Alex DeBrincat, Duncan Keith and Erik Gustafsson scored for the Hawks.
“I think we didn’t make many plays and after sort of the 8-minute mark they got their first chance. … I thought we had a good start and then we just kind of stopped playing,” Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton said. “We couldn’t break the puck out and couldn’t get out of D zone. They have some good players, they made some plays, but we kind of for some reason we were more passive than we’ve been and we didn’t handle their pressure very well.”

Collin Delia made 31 saves in taking the loss.
“It’s always about being in the moment and executing when you have to and being prepared,” Keith said. “Nothing’s a given. Every team is good. Every two points is going to be a hard-fought two points, and we don’t have any place for complacency or anything like that. I mean, look at the standings and look where we’re at. We have a lot to improve on and we’ve got to keep working.”
