Bruins end Sabres’ unbeaten run

In Buffalo, Linus Ullmark returned to his former home ice and made 35 saves for the Boston Bruins in a 4-1 win over the Sabres on Friday night.

Ullmark played six seasons in Buffalo before moving to Boston.

“It’s definitely going to be one of those lifelong memories, for sure,” Ullmark said. “It was very special.”

The Sabres lost for the first time time in four games.

“I thought he was awesome,” the Bruins’ Brandon Carlo said. “I think he held us in that game, throughout the first two periods, especially. There were some chances that we needed to clean up in front of our net, a little bit. He was a brick wall tonight. I think he played very well.”

Victor Olofsson scored the Sabres’ lone goal.

“The feeling for us watching our guys, we played tight and we pressed,” Sabres head coach Don Granato said. “And when you then fall behind, you press and you play a little tighter, and we did that the whole game. And how that may manifest, longer shifts because you want to do more, you press. … So all the signs of that were we … maybe put pressure on ourselves that shouldn’t have been there and we pressed.”

David Pastrnak  and Tomas Nosek scored in the opening frame to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead.

Charlie Coyle extended the lead to 3-0 in the second period, his goal came off the power play.

“I feel like we just gave them a little bit too much” Olofsson said. “A lot of chances they created we kind of made a bad play and we got the chances. But it’s going to be like that against those teams. It was a big learner for us, for sure. We feel happy with the way we played. I think we’ll take a lot with us in this game.”

Taylor Hall added an empty-net goal late to ice the win for Boston.

Craig Anderson made 22 saves in the loss.
