In Boston, Patrice Bergeron scored in the middle frame on Tuesday to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead over the Ottawa Senators.
Jeremy Swayman made 25 saves to help preserve the lead in a 3-2 win.
“Those are the types of games we’re better in,” Boston head coach Brice Cassidy said. “We’ve got to be able to play in them and be comfortable in them. … The temperature of the game went up. … We talk about when it’s your turn. When it’s your turn and there’s a hit in front of you, don’t turn it down.”
Boston improved to 6-4-0.
Zach Sanford and Nikita Zaitsev were the Ottawa strikers.
Five Ottawa skaters were sidelined on NHL COVID19 protocol.
“I’m proud of the group with the guys that were out and the effort we gave,” Senators head coach D.J. Smith said. “If we keep playing with that effort and that hunger, not only will wins come, but the morale in general will be better.”
The Senators were scoreless in six power play chances.
“We’ve got to get one on the power play, but in saying that, the ice wasn’t great,” Smith said. “I thought our penalty kill did a heck of a job too. We’d certainly like to get one on the power play, but at the end of the day, our 5-on-5 game I really liked.”
Brad Marchand (power play) and Derek Forbort also scored for Boston.
Matt Murray made 33 saves in the Sens loss.
