Bruins down Senators, 2-1, in OT

It took overtime, but the Boston Bruins finally shook off the Senators in Ottawa when Torey Krug scored with 3:07 gone in the extra frame for a 2-1 win.

“[Krug’s] a scorer,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. “We’ve kind of had a chat with him a bit about that: ‘I want you to shoot for sticks, I want you to be smart up top, not get shots blocked, but at the same time, when you have a chance to finish, finish.'”

Brad Marchand scored in regulation for the Bruins.

“Second night of a back-to-back, shortened schedules, it was a tough game for us,” Krug said. “It took us a while to kind of wake up there, guys were kind of still in their pre-game naps. Obviously, we responded well. [Rask] kept us in it early, made some great saves down the back end of it, and then we were able to come away with a win.”

Tuukka Rask made 27 saves to backstop Boston to the win.

Mark Stone scored the lone goal for the Sens who dropped to 13-14-4.

“We’re still making strides to get where we want to be defensively. … We have to figure that out pretty quick here, but it’s nice that we have [Mike Mckenna as a backup to Craig Anderson]. He stood on his head for a lot of the saves tonight,” the Senators’ Zack Smith said.

Boston improved to 16-10-4.

Mike McKenna made 42 saves in the loss.

“I think we can take some positives, especially with how hard we battled. Even on the [penalty] kills, the way we blocked shots, it was a step for us,” McKenna said.
