Bruins clinch second in Atlantic, Columbus falls to tie with Habs

In Columbus, the Blue Jackets posted a dismal effort in a 6-2 loss to the visiting Boston Bruins. Not like there was much to play for.

The loss dropped the Jackets into a tie with the Montreal Canadiens, who defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-2.

“We’ve got another opportunity next game,” Columbus captain Nick Foligno said. “Obviously disappointing but we cannot worry about this one. It’s in the past now.”

That only goes so far when teams around you are winning and you cannot seem to get out of your own way.

The Boston win clinched second place in the Atlantic Division and home ice n the first round, at least.

“That’s what we’ve been battling for all year,” Boston forward Brad Marchand said. “It will be good to have home ice.”

Tuukka Rask made 32 saves to get the win.

Marchand reached the 100-point plateau with a goal and assist.

“It’s a cool personal stat, but it all goes toward the same goal to get to the playoffs and we’re right there,” Marchand said.

Oliver Bjorkstrand and Matt Duchene scored for the Blue Jackets after the Bruins had built a 5-0 lead into the third period.

“They had better sticks than us,” Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson said. “They checked really, really well, way better than us. It’s pretty much how the outcome of the game went.”

Jake DeBrusk struck twice for the Bruins.

“Just some puck luck, I’m not sure,” DeBrusk said.

Marcus Johansson, David Pastrnak and Karson Kuhlman also scored for Boston.

“We’re a good hockey club. We don’t usually lose a lot of games in a row and (we) try to take care of the business at hand and correct things why we lost,” Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said after the win.

Sergei Bobrovsky got the start but was given the hook in the middle frame after yielding four goals and making 19 saves.

“The first and third goals were kind of funny goals,” Columbus head coach John Tortorella said. “They were crazy goals, but we got what we deserved tonight. They were the better team.”

Joonas Korpisalo faced five shots and stopped three of them.
