Canadian goaltender David Brown saluted a huge “character win” as Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays beat Nottingham Panthers 5-2 at Hull Arena in the Elite League.
Brown made 48 saves in a man of the match display to backstop Stingrays to two huge points as they returned to winning ways at home.
He said: “It was a big win, we knew we needed the two points, especially the way the last few home games have been, so it was a really good team effort to come out on top.
“It was a little bit of a crazy period in the first, we regrouped in the intermission, we knew what we needed to correct, we came out a lot better and were able to get the result we wanted.
“The guys showed a lot of resilience and it was a character win to be able to battle back, not only to tie the game but to take the lead and bring it through to the end. It was a big thing for us to be able to do that.
“It is my job to keep the puck out and give the guys confidence. I just try to do my best, to make the big saves and to keep the game close. I did that in the first period and we were able to take advantage of that.”
Stingrays have now beaten defending Elite League champions Belfast Giants and Challenge Cup holders Nottingham home and away this season.
Brown added: “It is a big step for the programme. That isn’t the way it has gone in the past but we are here to change that culture and change the way people see us in the league so to pick up wins like that home and away is huge and is letting the rest of the league know we are here for real and will push all the way to the end.”
