Brossoit, Jets shut out Kraken, 3-0 Kraken unable to reply to Jets' outburst in third

In Seattle, the Jets’ Laurent Brossoit made 17 saves on Friday night in a 3-0 shutout win over the Kraken.

“LB’s been outstanding for us all year,” Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness said. “We have as much confidence in him as we do [Connor Hellebuyck]. We’re fortunate to have two outstanding goaltenders who do a fantastic job for us.”

The was scoreless entering the third period.

Winnipeg improved to 40-17-5 off their seventh win in nine matches.

“We did a much better job of protecting the middle of the ice,” Bowness said. “Our forwards did a great job of backtracking for the most part and putting pressure on them, and our [defensemen] were able to stand up. For the most part, we were forcing them to dump the puck in so that means we were doing a good job in the neutral zone.”

In the third period, Mark Scheifele broke the ice, finally, at 7:15 for a 1-0 lead to the Jets.

“I was able to hold the line and give him a shot at an opportunity to score,” Morrissey said. “His instincts for the game and instincts to find the quiet ice — all the best players in the League do it — make it seem like they are wide open when everyone is keying in and trying to find them. So it’s a real skill and he’s great at that.”

The Kraken dropped to 28-24-11.

“We didn’t have a lot of energy tonight,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “We just couldn’t find that burst of energy to get us going on the right track in terms of momentum. You saw that momentum really turn in the second period.”

Adam extended the advantage to 2-0 at 11:28, scoring off a scramble after a rebound.

“I think that’s a testament to the coaching staff, some adjustments we made,” Lowry said of rebounding to win the second half of the home-and-home. “We’re an elite defensive team. We gave up a lot of odd-man rushes and uncharacteristic plays (on Tuesday) that we can’t afford to give up later on in the season. Some different adjustments like that I think was huge. There was a big kill for us at the end of the game — that’s the difference for us tonight.

“Last game, they get a power play and they score the winner. Tonight we’re able to not really give up any chances on it. Kind of hold serve, keep the score in our favor and then ice the game away.”

Nikolaj Ehlers hit an empty net with 50 seconds left on the game clock for the 3-0 final count on the scoreboard.

Joey Daccord made 29 saves in the loss.

“I think the first goal is always important, especially when you get through the first two periods scoreless,” Daccord said. ” It’s going to be a big momentum boost for whoever scores it. Obviously, they got it and just kept going from there. It’s tough but we’ve got to bounce right back.”
