Ontario, CA – Forward Jonny Brodzinski scored two goals and an assist and goalie Jack Campbell made 22 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Ontario Reign (30-17-9-0) blanked the Tucson Roadrunners (24-24-6-0) 5-0 at Citizens Business Bank Arena Sunday afternoon.
The Reign dominated the first period, firing a team-record 23 shots on goal. Defenseman Kurtis MacDermid opened the scoring at 9:06, flipping a shot over Roadrunners netminder Adin Hill (L, 36 saves on 41 shots). Forward Jonny Brodzinski and defenseman Zac Leslie added assists. Brodzinski made it 2-0 at 14:49 with a dazzling tally. Catching a pass from defenseman Cameron Schilling, Brodzinski ripped a shot over the glove of Hill for this team-leading 23 goal of the season.
Forward Michael Mersch gave the Reign a three-goal advantage early in the second period with a breakaway tally at 3:25. Brodzinski continued to shine and spotted the Reign a 4-0 lead with this second goal and third point of the contest at 14:53.
Forward Patrick Bjorkstrand completed the game scoring at 10:21 of the third period, beating Hill over the glove. The Reign finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play while the Roadrunners went 0-for-5.
