LONDON, UK – Streatham’s star forward Callum Best has been having a great year on the ice this season, however a recent purchase of an iPhone 5 has added a bizarre side story off the ice.
It all started when the 23 year old rejoined Twitter after an eight month sabbatical, thanks in part to his use of a £10 phone for that period.
“I re-activated my account 3 days ago and I was really happy because we had just beaten Chelmsford over the weekend” said Best, who has already scored an impressive 29 goals in the National Ice Hockey League this season.
“We hadn’t won in Essex since I joined the club so my Twitter feed was all hockey related afterwards”
The social media accolades for his on-ice displays were soon joined by a Tweet yesterday from a Celebrity Big Brother fan, who mistook Best’s Twitter handle for his namesake Calum Best who is currently starring in the popular reality TV show.
“She tweeted ‘Go Callum Go’ so I replied that ‘it was draining in the house’
This prompted an avalanche of new followers, and even more strangely a Tweet accusing the Streatham star of being ‘an emotional kid craving attention’.
“Ive only watched the show once with the girlfriend and I am not a fan” admitted the popular forward.
The ‘other’ Calum Best not only has one ‘l’ in his first name rather than two, he is also ten years older, a famous model and actor and once dated Lindsay Lohan.
“Funnily enough I have met him” admits the Guildford born version of Callum Best.
“I saw him in Magaluf last summer after a few drinks and I went up to him in the street and said ‘Hey Calum, I am Callum too and there is only one Callum Best and thats me’ ”
“He was cool and we got a picture and went our separate ways”
Back on the ice and Best is enjoying a good season with the Streatham Redskins and enjoying his time in South London.
“Yeah I am enjoying it and we are now bouncing back after a little slump” said the centre who is the master of the saucer pass.
“I have been around the top of the league scoring charts as well so I am happy with that. I’m just now looking forward to the games this weekend and continuing our good form”
Of course the question everyone is asking is whether he will change his Twitter name to avoid getting fans of the other Calum adding him?
“Nah” he replies. “There is only one Callum Best”
