Bray to back-up for Blaze

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze are pleased to confirm that 19-year-old Will Bray will be the club’s backup netminder for the 2022/23 Elite League season.

Bray carried out the role last season when either C.J. Motte or Jordan Hedley was unavailable and was also selected as part of the Elite Series line-up in 2020.

Developed through the Blaze Academy, Bray spent a brief time in Finland last season with IK Kronan playing four games before returning back to the UK.

In 2018/19 Bray was an England under-20 Conference Champion with the Blaze Academy.

25-year-old Hedley has signed a deal to be the starter for the NIHL’s Milton Keynes Lightning in 2022/23, and Bray will be the regular backup to for number one Paavo Hölsä.

If required to start games for the Blaze in case of injuries etc., Hedley has confirmed that he will make himself available as part of a two-way deal with Coventry and MK.

Hedley will also regularly train with the team and help support the development of Bray.

HC Danny Stewart said: “Obviously with Heds playing in MK, we needed to add a regular backup. Will grew on us during the Elite Series. He is so passionate about getting better, and has shown an unbelievable willingness to do that. It may be a bit early in Will’s career to be at the Elite level, but we feel with his drive and dedication, along with the support of Hedley, that he will develop considerably next year and beyond.”
