NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – Two nights after claiming their first win in the Berry Conference Final the Texas Brahmas struck again on Friday, defeating the Wichita Thunder 2-1 in front of 2,373 fans at NYTEX Sports Centre and evening the series at two games each.
Brahmas goaltender Brad Fogal stopped 11 shots while his defensive counterparts held the Thunder to just 12 total shots on goal. That total marks the fewest number of shots on goal for Wichita in the post-season.
Erik Spady had a power play marker while T.J. Fox netted the game winner early in the second period as the Brahmas won their second straight home game. It was a rough night for the Thunder who were out-shot 19-12 and saw two players ejected from the game. Chris Greene got the gate at 5:17 of the first, drawing a charging major that resulted in a game misconduct. Kevin Seibel was tossed at 13:38 after receiving a kneeing major and the subsequent game misconduct.. Texas converted just one of six power play chances while Wichita could not find the net on three man advantages. The Thunder has failed to score a power play goal in the series, going 0-13. In total, Wichita is just 1-35 with a man advantage in the post-season. Spady opened the scoring for Texas, beating Wichita’s Adam Russo during an extended power play at 8:36 of the first. After Greene was ejected for charging Fogal, Spady found the net from the right circle with assists going to Brett Findlay and Andrew Lackner. Thomas Beauregard answered with 4:30 remaining in the first to tie the game 1-1 and extend his point-streak to nine games. With Fogal out of position, Beauregard found the open net for Wichita’s only goal. Daniel Tetrault and Chris Chappell were awarded assists on the play. Fox put the Brahmas ahead for good with his team-leading sixth post-season goal 2:12 into the second period. The Thunder came up short on two power play chances in the middle frame, even though they out-shot the Brahmas 5-2. It would be the only period of the night in which Wichita would hold the advantage in shots. With the best-of-seven series tied 2-2, both teams head back to Wichita for game five tonight at Intrust Bank Arena with face-off set for 7:05 pm CST. The series shifts back to NYTEX Sports Centre for game six on Monday evening. Game seven, if necessary, will be played in Wichita on Wednesday. Contact the writer at: john.hall@prohockeynews.com
