Bowyer targets long-term success at Tigers

Matt Bowyer has laid out his vision for a renewed Telford Tigers by targeting long-term and sustained success for the English Premier League club.

The new chief executive and majority shareholder of Telford Ice Sports has assumed the day-to-day running of the club from US-based Wayne Scholes and Mr Bowyer is determined to use his commercial acumen to drive increased investment in British ice hockey.Telford Tigers logo

A former golf professional, Mr Bowyer believes he can build on the Tigers’ recent success to drive the club to the top of the English game.

“The one key thing for me to do, in following on from the tremendous work done since Wayne Scholes came in, and his passion for the future, is to bring that business element to it,” he said.

“It’s about making what has already been in place, from a huge investment, into a pragmatic, rolling business that generates a revenue stream and profit margin that can be re-invested.”

Mr Bowyer will run the Tigers alongside stalwart and club legend Paul Thomason and both men believe they can use their expertise on and off the ice to ensure the Tigers continue to challenge for many years to come.

“Without longevity, we end up like other non-mainstream sports, where we’re going from season to season, and week to week. That’s not within the long-term plan that Wayne created,” Bowyer added.
