Boston jump into third in East

In Boston, Craig Smith potted a hat trick for the Bruins in a 6-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday afternoon.

The win pushed Boston into third place, one point ahead of the New York Islanders.

Jeremy Swayman made 17 saves in the win.

 

Riley Sheahan (shorthanded) and Arttu Ruotsalainen  scored for the Sabres.

Sean Kuraly, Patrice Bergeron and Nick Ritchie were the other Boston strikers.

 

Smith completed his hat trick off the power play late in the third period.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen got the start for the Sabres and made 26 saves, yielding three goals before leaving the game after the second period concluded.

Dustin Tokarski made 11 saves in relief of the injured Luukkonen .
