Booth hits hat trick in Fife win

Fife Flyers moved off the foot of the Elite League table for the first time in over a year thanks to a nexcellent 6-3 road win in Dundee over the Stars.

David Booth hit a hat trick for the visitors.

Flyers controlled the majority of the opening period, outshooting the Stars 20-8 and generating three powerplay opportunities within the first ten minutes. Despite the Stars killing off the first two penalties with relative ease, the third proved costly, as Anton Karlsson fired a shot from the right circle past Jarrett Fiske at 10:12.

Booth doubled the Flyers’ lead at the halfway mark, capitalising on quick passing on the rush and redirecting the puck past Fiske.

Dundee came close to getting on the board on their first powerplay of the night, however Christian Purboo made a stellar diving save to deny Bradley Schoonbaert.

Booth scored his second of the night at 34:56, carrying the puck from the corner into the high slot and snapping a shot over the shoulder of Fiske to make it 3-0. A turnover in the Stars’ zone left Ethan Somoza alone in the high slot, where he made no mistake, firing the puck past Fiske at 42:48.

Spencer Naas pulled a goal back for Dundee at 46:22, collecting a pass from behind the Fife net and beating Purboo in close to make it 4-1.

Anton Karlsson restored the Flyers’ four-goal advantage with his second of the night at 51:26, redirecting a shot from Johan Porsberger past Fiske.

Matt Boudens made it a three-goal game less than a minute later at 52:24, tipping Jackson DeSouza’s shot from the right circle past Purboo.

A slashing call against the Flyers gave Dundee a late powerplay opportunity, which the Stars converted on at 57:56 as Drydn Dow’s shot deflected off Matt Berry and into the Fife net.

David Booth secured the two points for the Flyers by completing his hat trick at 58:29 with a shot in close past Fiske.
